The Ethnobotany and Identification of Conifers – London

Conifers are fascinating trees that evolved before we had the abundance of flowering plants that we know and love today and even before there were dinosaurs!

During this interactive workshop you will have the opportunity to explore some of the wonderful conifers in the Pinetum, and other areas, of Golders Hill Park. The morning session will be in the classroom where we will explore some of key physical characteristics that will help you identify different conifers to family groups, be signposted to several resources that can help you with your continued learning, as well as learn about some of the ethnobotanical uses of conifers worldwide.

Half the workshop will be spent inside, and half outside so please bring warm clothes.

Who is the workshop for?
General tree enthusiasts, conservation volunteers, nature lovers, gardeners, tree surgeons, bushcraft practitioners, forest bathing guides and eco-therapists, forest school leaders, complete beginners, … all welcome!

What to Bring:
– Warm clothes for when we head outside
– Walking boots/wellington Boots
– Waterproofs
– Notebook
– Lunch and snacks (there is a café on site for those wanting to treat themselves to a bowl of soup etc. at lunch time).

*Please can you let Jennie know of any additional learning needs (i.e. dyslexia) or medical conditions prior to the start of the course.

Travel
The nearest tube station is Golders Green on the Northern Line. The entrance to the park that is nearest to the classroom room is West Heath Avenue. If you walk into the park from here with the tennis courts to your right, keep going straight up this path until you get to a gate. This is the entrance to the ranger’s base and where our meeting room is for the day. After booking Jennie will send you her mobile in case you have trouble finding us.
